Community Building & Ecosystem For Change

At Vcil Community, we believe that meaningful transformation begins with inner change and extends to systemic shifts. Our approach to community building fosters spaces where individuals can grow personally while contributing to collective well-being. By nurturing collaboration, sharing knowledge, and developing purpose-driven initiatives, we create an interconnected ecosystem that drives holistic change.

This dynamic ecosystem aligns personal growth with social and environmental impact, empowering communities to reimagine development in ways that regenerate relationships, restore ecosystems, and build a resilient, equitable future.

In recent years, Vcil Community has brought our partners from various countries together to exchange ideas and work together. Vcil Community brought the partner Local Futures Ladakh to learn and exchange in Vietnam (2023), Thailand (2024), and South Korea (2024) to foster deeper connections between like-minded partners, helping them understand what Vcil Community is doing, and promoting international cooperation. Vcil Community will also continue to bring Thai partners to exchange in South Korea and India, and vice versa.

Starting this year, Vcil Community will also organize programs to bring foreign partners to exchange and work with partners in Vietnam, promoting exchanges and cooperation between social enterprises, community projects between Vietnam and communities and organizations within our network, creating learning opportunities and mobilizing social resources to places in need and forming an ecosystem to nurture necessary changes with our network.

VCIL COMMUNITY MEMBERSHIP

Vcil Community aims to create social movements for wellbeing and regeneration. We support social/ecological projects and connect them with resources to enhance their impact.

In order to have sustainable social movement, we must have supportive infrastructure and ecosystem for change-makers. Vcil Community Membership is born in this spirit.

There are 2 groups of members:

Membership Fee Contributors: Individuals who contribute money monthly and follow similar values.
Social innovators: Individuals or organizations who are working on community-oriented projects or social enterprise such as empowering disabled and marginalized groups, indigenous wisdom preservation, traditional knowledge revitalization, etc.

Members are specific group of change-makers we focus on working with. They are on their way to serving community or they may on the transition period to a new way of doing business. Or they can be young people exploring the meaningful impact they can make for the world.

At the moment, Vcil Community is providing them support in term of human resources, knowledges, ideas and networking with potential partners.

Our online and offline events, meet-up, conference is a platform for change-makers meet and connect to each others. Since members came from diverse background and fields, the ecosystem is wide and highly connected.

In addition, Vcil Community organizes training with exclusive offers to members in terms of mindset (sufficiency, decoloniality, deschooling, etc.) or ideas (cooperatives models, religious reforms, community-based financial model,...) or even upskilling (financial management, facilitation, conflict transformation, etc.) Any organizations or groups can also find shared-values volunteers, peers, interns, teammates or partners in this circle.

In the future, Vcil Community seeks to develop this infrastructure for change to the field of finance and funding. Experiments includes ethical banking, responsible investment, local banking, seed funding, community currency, etc. It would be our effort in creating a regenerative monetary system for local and nature wealth.

On the other hands, members are invited to share their resources for the common good, whether it is talents, passions, expertise, network or financial resources. This is the personal practise of generosity. Members choose to contribute monthly are motivated to support meaningful social movements and contribute to community rather than personal self-interested

The community is built upon relationship and sense of meaning, hence the gifting circle is re-established

Our recent interactions

Partnership with International Network of Engaged Buddhism (INEB)

In October 2022, two members of the VCIL Community attended a conference that was initiated by INEB in South Korea. After that, Vcil Community actively involved in other projects and activities with INEB. In June 2023, and June 2024, VCIL Community representatives joined a learning program in South Korea organized by the International Network of Engaged Buddhism (INEB) and hosted by Jungto Society. This immersive 7-day program explored Jungto Society’s Buddhist-inspired social practices, minimalist living, and community-driven initiatives, guided by the wisdom of renowned Buddhist leader Venerable Pomnyun Sunim.

Participants delved into Jungto’s democratic organizational model, volunteer-driven projects, and impactful efforts in environmental protection, social welfare, and peacebuilding. The journey offered transformative insights into addressing contemporary socio-economic challenges through mindful and collaborative approaches.

Beyond the program, the VCIL team connected with organizations focused on alternative education and sustainable development, paving the way for future collaborations to advance shared values of holistic well-being and social change.

Partnership with Agri-Nature Network

The VCIL Community has partnered with the Mab Ueang Agri-Nature Foundation and SEP Academy in Thailand to advance sustainable land and water management through hands-on training programs. Since 2023, we’ve co-organized international training sessions on the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy: Living Soil, Living Souls.

Participants from Vietnam have applied their learnings to restore ecosystems, engaging their communities in sustainable practices. In April 2024, practitioners from Mab Ueang visited Vietnam to provide on-ground support, working with ethnic communities in Bình Thuận, Lâm Đồng, and Phú Yên provinces. This collaboration has included designing rainwater harvesting systems, addressing monoculture challenges, and supporting local initiatives like Nhà Cỏ’s sustainable learning center.

Through ongoing follow-ups and volunteer exchanges, the partnership continues to empower young people to confront socio-environmental challenges and implement regenerative practices.

Partnership with Jungto Society

On May 10, 2023, the VCIL Community hosted Venerable Pomnyun Sunim and representatives of the Jungto Society in Da Nang, Vietnam. This meeting built on an initial connection established during an INEB conference in South Korea in October 2022, where VCIL members first learned about Jungto Society’s impactful work.

The collaboration between VCIL and Jungto Society deepened further after the study tour, resulting in an exciting partnership. Since 2023, Jungto Society has co-organized a segment of the VCIL Travel School Korea. This program provides participants with the opportunity to engage in experiential learning, mindfulness practice, and volunteer work in Ulsan’s rural areas alongside Jungto Society members.

Additionally, the program benefits from the involvement of The Peace Foundation (Jungto Society), further enriching the educational experience.

This partnership exemplifies shared values of fostering sustainable, compassionate communities and demonstrates VCIL and Jungto Society's commitment to creating systemic change through education, collaboration, and grassroots efforts.

Ecoversities Alliance

As part of our commitment to fostering holistic transformation, Vcil Community is proud to host the 2nd Regional Asia Ecoversities Gathering in Vietnam in November, 2023. This event brings together changemakers, educators, and visionaries from across Asia to co-create a thriving ecosystem of learning and action.

By facilitating meaningful dialogue, sharing innovative practices, and building partnerships, we aim to strengthen the movement for regenerative education and community development. Together, we cultivate a collaborative network that drives inner growth and systemic change for a sustainable, equitable future.

Partnership with Economics for the Common Good (ECG)

Vcil Community is proud to be a local charter partner of the Economics for the Common Good (ECG) movement in Vietnam. This partnership promotes a groundbreaking framework for organizational success by shifting focus from financial performance alone to a more comprehensive impact assessment. ECG's model evaluates an organization's influence on employees, customers, society, consciousness, the environment, and social welfare, offering a holistic alternative to traditional financial reports.

As part of this collaboration, VCIL Community translates key resources on finance, governance, and human resource management, enabling Vietnamese organizations to adopt ECG principles. By prioritizing sustainable and equitable impacts over profit maximization, we inspire businesses to reimagine success, foster gender equity, and drive positive social and environmental change across Vietnam.

Partnership with The Institute for Social Banking (ISB)

VCIL Community collaborates with The Institute for Social Banking (ISB) to advance education and research in socially responsible banking and finance. Together, we promote financial systems that prioritize people and the planet, encouraging ethical decision-making and sustainable practices in the financial sector.

Through this partnership, we support capacity-building initiatives, provide educational resources, and foster dialogue on how banking and finance can serve the common good. This collaboration aligns with our mission to create systemic change by rethinking financial systems to benefit communities, promote equity, and regenerate ecosystems.

Partnership with Post Growth Entrepreneurship (PGE)

VCIL Community partners with Post Growth Entrepreneurship (PGE) to redefine the role of business in society. PGE reframes entrepreneurship as a powerful medium for activism, art, spirituality, and creative expression, inspiring businesses to become catalysts for meaningful change.

As part of this collaboration, we are translating PGE's training materials into Vietnamese, making these transformative ideas accessible to local communities. Together, we empower entrepreneurs in Vietnam to move beyond profit-driven models, embracing purpose-driven practices that nurture personal growth, societal well-being, and ecological regeneration.
